GSC’s Skillsmender

Yesterday, when I arrived here I saw no one the only people there was my cousins who were the people I came with. I signed my name on the register and put the date on it. First it was my younger cousin, then me and then my older cousin. When we entered the room we saw many computers and chairs. After that, we met our teacher Eddy, since we came very early and there wasn’t anybody else we were allowed to use the computer. When more people came the class started.

mBot Creating

. Everybody there got an mBot Educational Robot Kit, to make our own robots. We sat at a huge table in the middle and then our teachers gave us the mBot Educational Robot kit. There were many items inside the mBot kit. Most of the items where small but the base of the robot was around the size of my hand. We couldn’t just use glue to stick all of them together. I mean like that would be just wrong. So Instead we had to use screws. Some screws were skinny but long, some were skinny but short, some were fat but short and the rest were fat but long. Some of the screws were square shaped so we had to turn the screw driver the over way.

Lunch

At 2:00 it was lunch time. There was crisps. And juice. They were really nice. I took a crisp, cupcake banana and juice. I finished it really quick. After that I went back to the computer to play a bit.

Programming

When lunch time was finished we went to the computer. We had to program the robot to make it sing happy birthday to you. I knew how to program it because I had done it at school but It was very hard to fine the notes. And I struggled a lot.

Home Time

At the end I was happy and I enjoyed it a lot. When I was leaving I had to sign the time I left at. I left with my cousins and my aunty who was waiting for me outside. It was raining a lot and I had short sleeves so I had to go to the car quickly.

Day 2

Arrival

Yesterday we arrived early here. We were the first people here again. My older cousin signed his name, then my younger cousin and then I signed my name. When we entered the only people I saw was my 2 cousins and my teacher Eddy, because we were early again we were allowed to use the computer again until the other people came.

Programming

When all the people came, we had to finish off the song. I struggled a lot but I got help from Eddy’s colleagues. So it was actually kind of easy for me to complete it. Then I heard Eddy saying that when we finished we could do races so I focused more on doing it and I completed it successfully. Before we did races we had to practice using the I pads and phones to learn how to race properly.

Racing

When we fully learnt how to race we did lots of racing. In the first round I wasn’t that good at racing so I came 2nd and Alex came 1st and Portia was 3rd. In that first race I learn how to race properly. In the 2nd round I came 1st. In the next round Alex came 1st and I was 2nd. And It kept going like that. Until everybody finished and we restarted. I was in the lead and I was winning until a miracle happened. Portia did not know how to race at all and she won all of us with 3 points. I came 2nd in the race and Alex was 3rd. I had a lot of fun doing the races and I was happy.

Lunch

After all of the racing it was Lunch. I took crisps juice and a banana. Just like yesterday. The boy Addison brought Doritos. He gave me one but I wanted another one.

Programming

After lunch we did more programming. We had to program our M bots to do a square. It was really hard and the only person that managed to complete it yesterday was Alex.

Home Time

When it was over I signed my names and then my older and younger cousins. My mother picked us up and then we went home.

Day 3

Arrival

I came here with my 2 cousins Portia and Alex. When we arrived I signed my name and my other 2 cousins as well. We were early again so we were allowed to play the computers until everybody else came.

Programming

Yesterday, the day after my 2nd day of going there, we had to complete the square. It was hard so I asked Ash for help. When we finished programming it there was a problem with my M bot. It was very slow and the program wasn’t working properly. I took a second to think why and then I realised that it was really slow because I left the battery on for a long time and forgot to turn it off. So I knew that my battery was running out. Eddy checked my battery percent for the batteries and it was 0.00. So he replaced the batteries with new ones. When we tested the program it was complete and it was a success. Then we had to make a circle which was really easy to play football.

Football

After all of the hard programming we played football. On Alex’s team was Alex, Portia and Faisal. And on my team was Addison and I. In the first 2 minutes of the match my team got 1 goal. Around 2 minutes after that my team got another goal. Then one of Eddy’s colleagues came to help us since my team only had 2 and the other had 3 people. After like 5 minutes since Eddy’s colleague joint the other team got 1 goal so the score was now 1 for the other team and 2 for my team. After like 5 more minutes the match ended making our team come in 1st place and making our team the winners.

Lunch

After all of the football it was lunch time. I brought 2 crisps and party rings. I shared with my 2 cousins. And since there was time left we could use the computer. So I still had time to enjoy myself before we left.

Programming

After lunch we had to do more programming. We had to make the M bot to sing a song and to make a dance. It was really hard so I wanted to do some teamwork with my cousins. My older cousin will do the shorter while my younger cousin and I will work on the song which is longer. It was really hard so we wrote it down on a piece of paper. And then we finished it so we went to the dance which was really easy

Home Time

At the end of the day we left here and before we left we had to sign our names. First me then my cousins. And my mum picked me up.

Day 4

Arrival

Today I arrived here at 11:51. When I entered the building I had to sign my name and the date I came in. We were really early again. We were even here before our teacher Eddy. So we used the computer since he always told us to do that every time in the morning. Around 30 seconds later Eddy arrived. And he was surprised that we were there before him since he always came before us.

App Creating

When everybody arrived here we made our own app. I was excited a bit because I had never created my own M bot app before. We went onto an app Inventor and we started to add notes and all of that. I put a picture of a chibi and small robot as the base of it. Then we had to drag blocks that are already programmed to do stuff.

Lunch Time

At 2:00 it was lunch time. For lunch I only brought a fizzy drink called lilt. They gave us fruit crisps and juice. I took blackcurrant juice because blackcurrant has always been my favourite juice. Also, Portia, Alex and Addison all shared our crisps.

App C reating

We never finished the App Creating so we continued on it. We were nearly done so we didn’t do much. I finished putting the blocks together so then I had to upload it. It didn’t work so we had to do a different upload. When I clicked on the other one it said that I had to wait a few minutes so I did. Eddy helped me upload it onto the I pad and it was there.

Racing

When I finished the app I used the I pad to control my m bot. In my opinion, I thought my controls were harder to use the M bot. So I decided to use the app from the app store to race. My battery ran out so I had to get a new one because If not I wouldn’t be able to race and If I still had battery my car would only go 5 metres per hour.

Home Time

After the racing it was home time. When I was leaving I had to sign the date I left. Then my cousins and then I left with my mother.

Day 5

Arrival

Today, I arrived here at 11:50 with my 2 cousins. We signed our names and the time we came at. Since we all came at 11:50 we that’s what we signed the time. First it was my older cousin Alex, then my younger cousin Portia and then it was me. We were early again so we could use the computer. But Addison and Faisal took very long to come so we could use the computers for longer.

App Creating

Yesterday we didn’t create the app properly so we had to recreate it. I created it with ease but to export it was hard so Ash helped me. When she finished uploading and exporting it she put it on the I pad and I used it. I didn’t do the wheels properly so it wouldn’t go in a straight line but I was fine with that. After a while, we did a race with our app. I didn’t do it because my app kept glitching so I had to shut the power off from the I pad and put it back on.
